It is upon this land where the famous frontiersman, Simon Kenton, settled. Kenton's daughter, Sally, married into the McCord family which took over the land from Simon. It was then passed onto the Hunt family of Princeton, NJ who moved here in 1823. The Hunt-McCord Preserve is named in honor of these two families. Just to the north bison once roamed and across the Mad River Valley to the west the great Shawnee Indian Warrior, Tecumseh was born in 1768. It was here that the last and largest battle of the American Revolutionary War west of the Appalachians was fought in 1780.
